After a self imposed break from the competitive arena, Paarl Golf Clubs Freddie Steyn has been given that new lease on a golfing life that the Mid Amateur game has given so many players. With his last club open being his victory in Ceres in 2009, Freddie has concentrated on other area of his life while still enjoying the game at a social level.

Having recently celebrated his 35th birthday, Freddie entered the Moorreesburg Open with little expectation despite a second place finish just 2 weeks ago ij the Boland Open Foursomes, but just a mere 9 or so hours after teeing off, Freddie was crowned the 2010 Moorresburg Open Champion.

With a fantastic field, Freddie got off to a quick start posting a one over par, 71 for a tie of the half way lead with fellow Mid Amateur golfer and the Boland 2009 Mid amateur Captain, Andre van Dyk. With premier IPT players Nathan Scott (72) and Armandt Scholts and David Barnard (74's) both in the field, the title was up for grabs. As it all turns out though, there is no substitute for "experience as Freddie charged home with a second round 70 to beat Andre van Dyk (71) by one shot and David Barnard (70) in 3rd place.

The top 5 gross positions were;

FREDDIE STEYN       71,70=141
ANDRE VAN DYK     71,71=142
DAVID BARNARD    74,70=144
NATHAN SCOTT      72,75=147
PIETER COETZEE     77,71=148
CARL BROWN         75,73=148
SHAUN SAULS        78,70=148
